This role looks after the health, feeding and daily care of marine and freshwater animals. You will help lead the aquarium team and run marine learning and conservation sessions for guests and the local community.

Education / Qualification

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Biology, Zoology, Marine Science or a related field
• Or knowledge and skills equal to 5 years of aquarium experience and education
• PADI Open Water scuba certification or equivalent
• PADI Divemaster or above is desirable

Skills Required

• Animal husbandry, including quarantine procedures, water quality testing and record keeping
• Identifying local and exhibit animals by common and scientific names
• Knowledge of fish anatomy, diseases, animal compatibility and behaviour
• Understanding of life support systems and the ability to troubleshoot problems
• Experience with live feed cultures, invertebrate rearing and fish rearing
• Ability to mentor, coach and direct junior staff
• Clear written and spoken communication, including email and reporting
• Public speaking and comfort with guest interaction
• Microsoft Office skills
• Able to work alone and in a team
• Networking with other aquariums, vendors and internal departments

Experience Required

• At least 1 year of supervisory experience

Key Responsibilities

• Check the animals daily and report any unusual behaviour or health changes to management
• Plan and manage feeding schedules, diets, disease checks, treatments and water quality programs
• Oversee exhibit upkeep and keep dive and exhibit equipment maintained, reporting faults straight away
• Run quarantine, animal transport and handling procedures
• Review animal records and department logbooks
• Guide and support the team so standards are followed
• Make sure Marine Animal Adventure interactions meet a high standard
• Lead marine education, research and conservation experiences for guests and the community
